How to summarize a YouTube video on Android
- Install Gistly from Google Play and create your account.
- Answer the setup questions about what you do, what you already know and how deep you want to go. You do this once.
- Open a video in the YouTube app and tap Share. Pick Gistly. If you don't see it, tap More in the share menu.
- Read the summary in your email or in the app. A notification tells you when it's ready.

Long videos sit at the slow end, and the email arrives after that.

What Gistly doesn't do
- It doesn't run on iPhone or in a browser.
- It doesn't summarize videos from sites other than YouTube.
- It has no chat with a video and no search across your summaries.
- It can't read every video. If the owner has restricted a video, it can't be summarized, and that doesn't use your allowance.
- Summaries are written by AI and can contain mistakes, so check anything important against the video.

- Does Gistly work on videos without subtitles?
- Yes. When a video has no subtitles, Gistly listens to the audio instead. This usually takes longer than a video with subtitles.
- Is there a Gistly app for iPhone or a website version?
- No. Gistly is Android only for now, and summaries are started from the Android share menu. There is no iPhone app and no website version.
- Which videos can Gistly not summarize?
- Some videos can't be read, for example when the owner has restricted them. Gistly only works with YouTube, not other video sites. A video that can't be summarized doesn't use your allowance.
- Can I delete my Gistly data?
- Yes. You can delete your account and its data from inside the app or from the delete-account page. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a Google Play subscription, so cancel that in Google Play too.
- Is Gistly made by YouTube or Google?
- No. Gistly is an independent app built by Ajay Singhadiya of OperateAI in Jaipur, India. It isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube or Google.
